Infectious diseases are caused by pathogens present in the environment, such as bacteria, fungi and viruses that enter the body through the skin, gastrointestinal track, nasal passages or mucous membranes of the lungs, and overwhelm the immune system.

The anti-infective market can be divided into three categories: antibacterials also known as antibiotics, antifungals and antivirals. Atlas Pharma's line of anti-infective drugs is in the class known as semi-synthetic antibiotics. These drugs have been proved to be effective against pathogens that have become resistant to older antibiotics.
