ANTIEMETICS

Antiemetics are effective against vomiting and nausea.  They are typically used to treat motion sickness and the side effects of opioid analgesics and chemotherapy treatment of cancer patients.

Granisetron (brand name KYTRIL®) is used to treat nausea and vomiting following chemotherapy. Granisetron breaks down slowly, staying in the body for a long time. One dose usually lasts 4 to 9 hours and is usually administered once or twice daily.

Ondansetron (brand name ZOFRAN®) is used mainly to treat nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy. Following oral administration, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach maximum plasma concentration.

Both drugs are removed from the body by the liver and kidneys. Neither drug has much effect on vomiting due to motion sickness and they do not have any effect on dopamine receptors or muscarinic receptors.

Atlas Pharma offers the following Antiemetic medicines:

   Granisetron
    (brand name KYTRIL®)
   Ondansetron  (brand name ZOFRAN®)
